Advent-ure 2017: Let's Worship Jesus

For the last few years, I have composed a series for Advent that I have entitled: 25: A Christmas Advent-ure.  This year, I want to focus on the importance of allowing the component of worship to enhance your celebration of Christmas.  I have listed 25 different Scripture verses in four overall categories: Prophecy, Personality, Promises, and Performance.

Landmarks

Symbolism can be very important in conveying ideas and remembering the past. Throughout America, there are religious landmarks that can reinforce the significance of faith in our land.

The Newsmax website has compiled a list of its “Top 50 Religious Landmarks in America.” Some are not expressly Christian, but there are a number of these that have a direct tie to the Christian faith.  I have picked out a few on which to concentrate.

How Do We "Filter"?

Perhaps you are aware of the previously contentious nature of the relationship between the VidAngel filtering service and various studios.  VidAngel has re-launched after being shut down, after an “injunction was obtained” by Disney, Fox, and Warner.  In the old system, according to the Deadline website, “VidAngel cracked the encryption on discs, then sold and repurchased the content in transactions with consumers who specified edits. In effect, the sale and re-purchase created a cheap, family-friendly rental of popular films...”

Experiencing God's Reality

While we can attempt, in our humanity, to choose our own reality, the only reality that actually counts is the one determined for us by God. Unfortunately, we can be prone to construct “fake news,” you might say.  God wants us to experience the reality He has in store for us, applying His principles to our human condition.

Another Gospel

After attending a National Religious Broadcasters Convention, certainly there is much to process.  It is a time for many to receive training and exhortation, to connect with practical tools in order to be better communicators of the gospel.  For others, it is a time for encouragement, to be built up in the faith.

My NRB experience for years has been to hear firsthand from Christian communicators, including authors, musical artists, commentators, actors, and more.  I believe that one of the threads upon which I was able to explore this year at the convention in Orlando was the conflict between the true gospel and what I have referred to as “another gospel,” borrowing from the verse in Galatians 1:8 - “But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.”

Choosing to Be "Constructive"

In a time in which awards shows have become politicized, it seems that those responsible for the Academy Awards had become concerned, according to a piece on the Deadline Hollywood website. After the Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony became open season on President Trump, and specifically his refugee policy, it seemed that the Oscars might have been taking a second look.

Resting in a Perpetually Busy World

We have rolled over into a new year, on the heels of what is traditionally a busy season.  We may search for pockets of rest that can help rejuvenate our souls and our bodies when weariness sets in.  Actually, it’s really not just a seasonal thing...Jesus tells us to come to Him for rest, but the demands and distractions of everyday life can keep us from enjoying that experience.
